| Bio: | First of all, why am I here?: In re-assessing values at the end of 2005 (re-reading and reviewing Covey's book 7 Habbits with my son), I came to some shocking realizations. I'm middle-aged; the last 15 years I let my obsession with career and technology take control of my true values. I'm here to create, to develop friendships (virtual or otherwise), be an activist for those without a voice, shake-up Evangelicals (in a good way), support and give advice to others, be a human being once again, be an example for my children, get exposure to my songwriting and meet other musicians / artists of similar heart. I am not into "bashing" or "hating" anyone; I am into scarcasm, humor, occasional shock value to initiate thought and change in myself and others. I enjoy discussions and I try to think before I talk -- we already have enough "knee-jerk" reacting going on in this country. Time is very short, my friends. Life is a blessing, a gift, use it wisely, without fear, as a peacemaker and with love. ------------------------------------------------- Jimmy Dow, alter ego "Deaf Rev. Jimmy". I'm middle aged ("Fuck, how did that happen!"), childish of mind, sincere of heart and of an intentional mind. Grew up in San Diego, CA. Early-early years were being part of the Dow Family Singers (I sang soprano and with my wonderful family. Preacher / Music Minister / Voice Teacher father, loving mother and 3 wonderful older sisters. Early pre-occupation with music, athletics, surfing women with huge breasts and sexual abstinence (the latter, I think caused brain damage: better not be obsessed with sex and abstain at the same time - it hurts). From age 15 to age 22: "Russ, Tim and Jim": best friends, confidents, pranksters and folk, folk/rock singing group for many, many years. Boy, lots of funny stories to tell like: "Tim, everyone's staring at us...I think we've been trying to count change for an hour" It had been about 2 minutes - Us, standing in front of the cashier at Coco's, trying to count our change, second time I ever smoked grass, we were totally paranoid/giggly. I never do anything in moderation -- that's why now recreational drugs for me. Terrified, we ran out of the restaurant. Because we were goood Baptists and saving ourselves for marriage, all we could talk/think about was sex -- obsessed with sex and saving your soul and ours (your soul was the most important :). Interesting combination sex obsession and saving souls -- sound familiar in today's political climate? You will hear Deaf. Rev. Jimmy talk alot about this at times: what the true Gospel of Jesus is and morality talk that has nothing to do with SEX..SEX...SEX (I love that word). Best things happened in Senior year of High School: 1. Broke my leg first week of football season (hmmm, maybe I should start learning), 2. School counselor who told me, "Jim, you won't make it in college: with a 'C' average here, you will get 'D's in college (note: don't ever get 'Deaf Rev. Jimmy' pissed, it makes him try harder) and 3. My first true love - a girlfrend who really new how to kiss -- very large BREASTS (another favorite word as well) and knew how to touch (see the brain damage developing, exploding???). College: Grossmont Junior College - finally learned how to learn, met cool Psychology Professor with long hair ("Hey, I'll be a Psychology Major!"), diverted my testosterone to Martial Arts, continued surfing, lost-girlfriend-major-depression-Im-going-to-die-with-no-sex, immersed myself into music. San Diego State: studied hard, developed the ablity to learn right-brained-style (which is not taught in school), got married at age 22 (rebounded from true love and sexual obsession into bounds of matrimony with a good friend so I could sanctify sex). I won't talk much about my best friend/wife #1 (in respect for her). Graduated from San Diego State with B.A. Psychology (most Psychologists are screwed up. I would have been good one). Grad School: Went to Fuller Theological Seminary to study combination Psychology / Theology. I did not want to be a "Minister", possibly a Psychologist -- I also wanted to study, ask blunt/hard questions and find out for myself what I really believed in (Fuller is neither "Left" nor "Right" - definitely was suspect in "Evengelical" circles). Fantastic experience. Learned to read Koine Greek, Hebrew, German (I dust them off when I need to) -- read every book I could get my hands on from every thinking Christian or Non-Christian ethicist, philosopher and Russian novelists. Graduated in disappointment with M.A. in Theology (I wanted to transfer to School of Psychology and get my PHD -- wife had enough, in-debt-up-to-ears, want baby). What am I doing..this is too much. Quickly: 22 years later - Software Engineer, father of two adult children, one 8 year old, husband of wife#2 for 14 years (great years for me -- not sure what she will say :). Songwriter for last 10 years and day job web architect/programmer. Radical change this last year: "ENOUGH!" of the corporate world, God-Love-America-Religion, screwing the poor, renewed Christian Crusades to kill in God's name. I can't take it anymore. Ok..do something. I am...trying to meet up with others to join in peaceful force and voice; doing it solo for now. I exceeded my disk quota. Gotta stop. | |||||||
